1. Practice moving heavy items from place to place.
You WILL need to go to the store room at least 3621 times during your shift to restock the shelves.
2. Sharpen your hand-eye coordination.
There will be garments flying everywhere. You must be able catch them before they hit the floor then refold them immediately.
3. Get a mantra.
When you're at breaking point you will be able to recite this to get you back on track.
4. Wear protective clothing.
These shoppers will stop at nothing when they see a bargain. Safety first.
5. Take regular coffee breaks.
They will keep you sane.
6. Get in some agility training.
Between taking cash, tearing receipts and scanning items, your two hands will be required to do the work of six.
7. Know the product well.
You want to be able to know the products so well that you can reach into a pile of clothes and, without looking, pick out the customer's exact size.
8. Eat a good, hearty breakfast.
This will feel like the longest shift you've ever worked.
9. Wish, pray and hope for the best.
If you have a lucky charm there has never been a better time to wear it.
And if you do all of the above, when those doors open at 6am, you can be like:
