In Pretty Little Liars season 7 episode 18, our faith in Mona was shaken once again. We hoped she would stay true to her word and help the Liars beat the game, but Caleb & Ezra’s discovery made us question everything. So are you as concerned as we are after seeing that? Let's take another look at Mona's story in Season 7B so far to see if we can work out what she's up to.
At the start of the season, Mona was determined to help Hanna with her business.
It was so great to see these two teaming up again. Mona really believed in her bestie and she gave Hanna the opportunity to dress a senator's daughter for an upcoming event.
But then it turned out that the senator's daughter thought Mona was Hanna's boss.
We all know how Mona likes power... However, she did straighten things out with the senator's daughter right away. This could have just been a misunderstanding.
Mona jumped into action when she saw Jenna in Hanna's dress.
She wasn't about to let anything stand in the way of Hanna's success. But what if she was the one that sent the dress to Jenna in the first place? As her business partner, Mona probably had access to all of Hanna's designs and she has gone through Hanna's closet without her permission before...
Mona also knew that Hanna was going to collect her shoes in Philly, which was where she got trapped in the shoe repair shop by A.D.
But surely Mona wouldn't put Hanna in danger again after she's done so much for her? She helped the other Liars track Hanna down when she was taken by A.D., and she was there for her when she kidnapped Noel. Hasn't she done enough to prove that she really is Hanna's friend?
When Hanna first showed Mona the game, she was in awe.
This definitely made us worry. Mona has a dark side, could the game have stirred it up again? Or was her reaction a cover for the fact that she is the game's creator?
However, when Hanna asked Mona to help her play, Mona initially declined.
Mona didn't want the game to tempt her into playing with people's lives again. She's worked so hard at being a better person, why would she ruin it all now?
But then when she agreed to help, she was disappointed that Hanna hadn't told the others about her involvement.
Could Mona be A.D. because the other Liars still haven't accepted her after all she's done for them? Perhaps she has created the game to punish them or to make them realize that they need her because she's the only one smart enough to beat it.
When the Liars did allow her to play, the first thing she did was track down the doctor who implanted Ali with Emily's eggs.
It did seem kind of suspicious that she was able to find him so easily, but this could just be part of her desperately trying to earn the Liars' trust. Also, she was particularly harsh towards Emily when she was A, maybe she is still trying to make up for it?
However, we later saw that Mona has built a new lair where she is keeping the missing shovels.
Is this her A.D. lair or is it simply the place where she is trying to work out how to beat the game? She could have the shovels because she's trying to keep the police from discovering them, or she could be holding on to them to use them against the Liars at an opportune moment...
And when we saw her with the game in S7E18, we started to really worry about her.
Has she just taken it for closer inspection, to find its weakness? Or if she is A.D., has she taken it to make further modifications? We really hope it's not the latter.
