Christmas Day: Expectations Vs Reality

Is it really the most wonderful time of the year?

We all have an image of the perfect Christmas in our minds but, as Clark Griswold discovered in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, things don't always go to plan.

The Christmas tree

Expectation: I want my tree to look like they do in department stores. Big, full and tastefully decorated.
Reality: We no longer have a lounge, we have a forest.

My Christmas outift

Expectation: I want to look classy on Christmas morning. Like how the characters in black and white movies look -- festive but perfectly put together.
Reality: If I don't wear pants I won't have to undo them after lunch.

Snow

Expectation: We will wake up and the neighborhood will be covered in a soft blanket of fresh snow, twinkling in the morning sunlight.
Reality: I want to glare at the cold but I can't move my face.

Christmas day

Expectation: The entire day will be full of perfect family moments and fun.
Reality: There is nothing to do between presents and dinner. Should we all just nap?

The Christmas dinner

Expectation: Everyone is looking at my food and wondering why I don't have my own cooking show.
Reality: Dry doesn't even begin to describe it.

Decorations

Expectation: I am going to create the most beautifully decorated home EVER. I am going to make history.
Reality: A mess. I've made a mess.
