The series finale of Pretty Little Liars had it all, but the biggest thing fans have been talking about is the A.D. reveal. Brought to you by SIMPLE Mobile, the video below shows Keegan Allen answering all of your burning questions before we are treated to a special interview with Troian Bellisario on what it was like to play A.D.
Spoby didn't kiss once in the final season of Pretty Little Liars? This is definitely the worst thing A.D. has ever done. Speaking of A.D., we have no idea how Troian was able to keep playing her a secret for so long. The other cast members didn't even know when she was playing as Alex and not Spencer! Did you guess that there was something strange going on during those scenes?
Whether or not you knew Spencer had a twin, you guys got it right on the PLL Suspect Tracker!
47% of fans thought A.D. was a mystery suspect and that's exactly what happened. Lucas came in second with 10% of the votes, which makes sense considering he was actually friends with Charlotte and wrote a comic about the game. Paige - always an A.D. favorite - came in third with 9%. Check out all of the results here and read up on Alex's story below.
So Alex Drake is Spencer's identical twin.
Mary Drake sold Alex so that she could get enough money to get out of Radley. She went to live with a wealthy couple in England but after it became clear that Alex had some issues, the couple left her in an orphanage when she was still young enough to forget them. Alex ran away from the orphanage on her tenth birthday.
Alex didn't know anything about her biological family until Wren ran into her in a bar in London.
Alex and Wren got to know each other and they fell in love. He told her everything he knew about Spencer, Mary Drake, and Charlotte. Charlotte flew to England to meet Alex. They became instantly close, feeling as though they had known each other forever. It was also on the plane to England that Charlotte met Archer. The four became inseparable.
After a while, Charlotte told Alex that she wanted to return to Rosewood.
She just couldn't let go of the A Game. Alex wanted to go with her, but Charlotte told her that the Liars (Spencer included) were toxic and that they were just dolls to her. They said goodbye and that was the last time Alex ever saw Charlotte.
Charlotte's death was Alex's motivation to become A.D.
Alex told Wren that she needed closure so she went to Rosewood to pick up Charlotte's game in order to find her killer. She promised Wren that she would return as soon as she had done so and that's exactly what happened.
But one year later, Alex still couldn't get Spencer out of her head.
She couldn't get over the fact that Spencer got everything while she was left with nothing. She was especially obsessed with how close the Liars were -- that no matter what happened, they would always love and forgive each other. Alex wanted this kind of friendship for herself so she decided to become Spencer while staying with Wren. She even got Wren to shoot her so they would look exactly the same! Wren, however, couldn't stop seeing her as Alex - he loved Alex - so she eventually killed him and turned his ashes into an eternity stone. *gulp*
Alex's new plan was to replace Spencer in Rosewood.
Alex kidnapped Spencer and kept her locked away in an underground house. Spencer told Alex that she would never be able to pull it off, but Alex said that she already had! It was Alex who helped Hanna escape from A.D. in S7E1, it was Alex who kissed Toby in the 7A finale, and it was Alex who slept with Toby in S7E19! Things were not looking good...
But Spencer's friends (and enemies) weren't so stupid...
Speaking to Spencer (who was actually Alex), Jenna could smell that she was a different person. She phoned Toby and told him that she thought Spencer wasn't Spencer. Rather than think Jenna crazy, Toby was already having suspicions of his own. He realized that the book Spencer gave him in the 7A finale couldn't have been her book because it didn't have any of her notes in it, so he rushed to tell the Liars that he thought Spencer had an identical twin. Mona overheard this conversation and phoned Alex to tell her it was time to move on to Plan B.
Plan B was to kill Spencer.
Mary Drake tried to talk Alex out of it, but Alex couldn't be persuaded. She wanted the Liars and Toby all to herself, and the only way she would get that was if she killed the real Spencer. Luckily, Mona was able to track Alex's location and the gang arrived before she could do so, but therein lay another problem -- did they know who the real Spencer was?
Of course they did!
Toby grabbed Alex and asked her what her favorite poem was in the book she gave him. She couldn't give an answer and Spencer, obviously, gave him the right one. Mona phoned 911 and a cop arrived to take Alex away, or at least, we thought it was a cop. Next thing we saw was the cop kissing Mona in Paris, and Mona had Mary and Alex locked up in a doll house all of her own!
