Season 2 episode 15 of Shadowhunters was a rollercoaster.
In preparation for next week's episode, we sat down with showrunners Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer to discuss what has happened so far this season, and what we can expect from season 2 episode 16. Check out the interview below.
Now that we know Sebastian’s true identity, what are his plans?
You don't really want to know the answer to that. It would spoil all the fun ahead. We can say this - Sebastian's motivations get more complicated and twisted as time goes on. He will shock and repulse you, and break your heart in the same episode. Will Tudor is remarkable in every one of his scenes.
You can't deny the chemistry between them, can you?
Can you talk about Alec’s development as a leader?
Alec's leadership skills continue to grow and mature as the season evolves. Unfortunately, every leader must make difficult decisions, and Alec is no different. He always wants to do the right thing, but when your boyfriend is a Downworlder and you're the head of the New York Institute, the "right thing" can be elusive.
Can you talk about the theme of atonement, especially between children and parents, that's ran throughout the season?
The series often deals with the theme of children and parents confronting the unresolved issues of the past. We saw it with Jocelyn and Clary, as well as with Valentine and Clary as well as Jace, with the Lightwoods and their parents, and we will soon see it explored with Sebastian and his father.
Can you tell us more about what’s happening at the Seelie Court? Is there an uprising happening in the Downworld? Are Luke and Magnus interceding on behalf of the Shadowhunters?
The Seelie Queen doesn't trust the Shadowhunters and wants to rally the entire Downworld against the Clave. Luke and Magnus don't appear in season 2 episode 16 because they and other Downworld leaders, including Raphael, have been invited to a special Downworld council meeting in the Court. We would've loved to be there, but we couldn't pull off the amazing trek to Idris and the Seelie Court in one show.
How significant is it for Jace and Clary to finally go to the Shadowhunter homeland in season 2 episode 16?
Very. It's a place of magic and history that Clary has never seen before. And a place that book fans have only seen in their minds. To be able to walk through Brocelind Forest and swim in Lake Lyn is a true thrill.
Are you looking forward to traveling to Idris with Jace and Clary next week? Tell us in the comments!
And don't forget you can watch all the episodes so far any time.
