Do the Downworlders want revenge?
Season 2 episode 13 pitted Shadowhunters against their Downworlder friends.
When Shadowhunters start turning up dead, suspicion immediately falls on Downworlders. The tension causes even greater strain on Magnus and Alec's relationship. Meanwhile, Clary encourages Simon to once again focus on his music. Watch the episode and then relive every moment with our official recap.
1. Clary booked Simon a gig.

He was a bit nervous about performing solo, but Clary put his mind at ease. Meanwhile, Jace and Maia chatted at the bar. When Jace tried to buy a drink for Kaelie, his old Seelie flame, she dumped the shot all over him and walked away. Maia reminded him that a lot of Downworlders were still angry about his part in Valentine's massacre.
2. Izzy arrived at the Institute to find the place on high alert.

A Shadowhunter had been found dead in an alleyway with his runes cut out. The claw marks suggested a Werewolf attack, so Inquisitor Herondale sent Jace, who we discovered in S2E12 is also her grandson, to investigate.
3. Simon was offered the chance to become a Vampire leader.

Members of Raphael's clan told Simon about the legend of a great Daylighter leader, which they assumed was Simon. Uncomfortable with their request, he told them to go back to Raphael. Later, Luke reminded him that he had a lot of qualities that could make him a good leader.
4. More attacks led the Shadowhunters to believe that the Downworlders were looking for revenge.

Several Shadowhunters were left dead with marks from Vampires, Seelies, and Warlocks. The Inquisitor brought Luke in for questioning, releasing him only after a DNA test proved he wasn't the killer. Jace encouraged the other Shadowhunters to get DNA samples from their own Downworlder friends to clear their names. The Inquisitor named Jace the new head of the Institute over Alec.
5. Magnus and Alec continued growing distant.

Magnus was extremely hurt when Alec asked for DNA to clear his name, asking him to leave after providing a hair sample.
6. Clary was attacked while walking home from Simon's.

Luckily, Simon arrived on the scene in time to save her. When he brought her back to the Institute and refused to leave her side, the Inquisitor had him locked up. Meanwhile, Max arrived to start his formal training and wanted to accompany Izzy on her mission to visit Raphael. She refused to let him come.
7. The Inquisitor made the controversial decision to insert GPS tracking chips into all Downworlders.

Alec refused to be involved but Jace, pressured by his grandmother, agreed.
8. Jace visited the Hunter's Moon to encourage the Downworlders there to be voluntarily tagged.

It didn't go over well, leading to a fight between Jace and Maia. Luke broke it up, but not before a Shadowhunter implanted Maia with a chip.
9. Dot visited Magnus and they danced the night away.

Magnus didn't tell his old friend about the body swap with Valentine, but she still knew something was wrong. They talked about old times and danced all around the apartment together. But, when Dot made a move on Magnus he rejected her. Even though he found her attractive he knew that Alec was the person he loved.
10. Meanwhile, things went from bad to worse at the Institute.

After Clary woke up to find Simon locked up and Maia under arrest for resisting at the bar, she confronted Jace and the Inquisitor over the unfair treatment of the Downworlders.
11. Izzy visited Raphael to try to get more information on the murders.

Raphael told her the Vampires would never cut runes off Shadowhunters. Before the Accords, Shadowhunters would hunt Vampires for sport and take their fangs as trophies. The Vampires swore they'd never let that happen to anyone else, hence they couldn't be the murderers. He told Izzy the murderer was trying to cover their tracks, but also send a message. And he suspected a certain Seelie was the one sending it...
12. Meanwhile, Jace finally came to his senses and released Simon and Maia.

Maia refused to apologize for punching him, but Jace agreed that he deserved it.
13. While looking for Meliorn, Izzy and Raphael discovered Max had disobeyed his sister and tracked them.

Max hid while Izzy and Raphael found Meliorn crouching over a dead body. He swore another Seelie was the killer. After Max went missing, Izzy and Raphael had no choice but to trust that Meliorn would lead them to the murderer and Max.
14. Izzy, Raphael, and Meliorn saved Max from Kaelie, the Seelie behind the Shadowhunter killings.

As they fought Kaelie she admitted that she hated the Shadowhunters for their role in the deaths of so many Downworlders. She didn't understand why the Vampire and Seelie didn't agree with her, but they told her they had to do what was right. In the end, Izzy struck the fatal blow. They discovered various "trophies" from Downworlders that Kaelie had used to make the killings look like an uprising.
15. Jace made Alec the new Head of The Institute.

He realized that he was more of a soldier than a leader. Alec visited Magnus and apologized for treating him like a suspect. Magnus was very forgiving and the pair kissed on his balcony.
16. Simon performed his first solo gig at the Hunter's Moon.

Clary cheered him on, and the bar was full of Vampires who still saw him as a legend come to life. Even Raphael showed up, although that might have been to catch a glimpse of Izzy. Jace didn't come into the bar due to the animosity between him and many of the Downworlders.
17. Jace apologized to Maia.

He showed up outside the bar to remove the GPS chip from Maia's neck. She pointed out that it was obvious he still had feelings for Clary. To prove her wrong he started kissing Maia, and things got hot and heavy from there.
