Have you seen season 5 episode 2 'Exterminate Her' of The Fosters yet? If you haven't, you should watch it right now. Jesus finds out a shocking secret, Emma is acting strange, and Callie receives some very good news -- three pieces of very good news to be exact. Check out our official recap below to get every little detail.
Callie comes home to a surprise party and finds out that the charges have been dropped against her.
Everyone is really proud of her, although Stef is still angry with Callie for getting into Russell's car. During the party, Jesus tells Mariana that he wants to do his senior project by himself. Jesus is still not talking to Brandon, and Emma is still not talking to Mariana.
Stef admits that she and Lena are at their wits' end with Callie and that they all think it would be a good idea if she was to spend more time with Robert. The next day, Lena wonders if that was the right decision to make, considering Robert once tried to gain custody over Callie, but Stef assures her that since Callie will soon be eighteen, that won't be an issue.
Mariana speaks to Gabe about Jesus.
She asks Gabe to tell Jesus that he'll only help him with his project if he allows Mariana back on it, since Jesus doesn't know that he might not be a senior next year. At school, Jude finds out that the school newspaper is planning an opinion piece that blames the students for what happened at the protest. Lena later takes this up with Drew, but he says that since it's only one student's opinion and that no one on the school board was quoted, there's nothing he can do about it.
Helen, the art professor, tells Callie that she will need a portfolio in order to apply to the San Diego School of Art.
Callie asks Helen if she could help her build a portfolio so she'd be able to apply this year, but Helen says she can't. Afterwards, Callie tells Robert that art school isn't an option, and when she's back at school, she tells Karen to trash her project. Meanwhile, Gabe meets with Stef and tells her that he thinks they should be honest with Jesus about the fact that he might not be a senior next year. Stef tells him that that is not his decision. Afterwards, Stef meets one of her new neighbors, Dean.
Callie gets more good news.
She tells her moms that Helen phoned to say that she changed her mind and that she will help Callie. This means that Callie can apply for art school this year! Later, she tries to get her art project back but is told that it has already been taken to the dumpster. The next day, Lena and Mariana meet Dean's wife, Teresa, and their son, Logan. There's an awkward moment when Teresa tells Lena that she hasn't heard good things about Anchor Beach...
Drew asks Lena if she's read the school paper.
Someone hacked into the computer system and replaced the pro privatization article with a story that explains what really happened the night of the protest. Drew is furious, but Lena uses his own words against him and tells him that since no one on the board was quoted, there's nothing wrong with the article. Meanwhile, Callie arrives at her first art class. She was asked to bring an object that she feels defines her. She chooses her fancy, new art set from Robert. Helen introduces her to Ximena, who Callie is going to shadow.
Grace phones Brandon with an emergency.
Not realizing it's a booty call, Brandon totally panics and asks her if she's hurt. Seeing that Brandon has completely misunderstood the situation, Grace makes up an excuse as to why she's handcuffed to the bed, and Brandon leaves for a job interview. Meanwhile, Callie suddenly thinks that Robert must have paid Helen to allow Callie to audit her class. She confronts her and Helen admits that she did speak to Robert.
After being pressed for answers, Gabe tells Jesus the real reason he needs to work with Mariana on his senior project.
Jesus understandably gets worked up. He angrily confronts Stef about keeping the truth from him so she sends him to his room until he can calm down. Emma arrives and Stef tells her that Jesus could probably do with seeing her. She goes upstairs, but on seeing Jesus lash out, she turns around and leaves before Jesus even sees her. Later, Jesus tells his parents that he wants to try and be a senior next year even if it means going to summer school. Lena then breaks the news to him that Drew will no longer fund senior projects for juniors, but Gabe says that he knows someone who could donate materials.
Ximena takes Callie to a roller derby game.
After the game, Ximena asks Callie if she really thinks that her shiny, new art set defines her. Callie admits that it doesn't. Ximena tells her that if Callie isn't herself, she won't be happy and as an artist, she won't have anything to say. Brandon picks Callie up to take her home. He tells her about Grace's "emergency" and Callie tells him what was really going on.
Callie confronts Robert about his meeting with Helen.
Robert reveals that he didn't pay her -- he just went to talk to her and remind her of Callie's story. He says that he asked Helen to give her another chance and that since she did just that, she must believe in Callie. Callie asks Robert, Stef, and Lena if they believe in her. They said that of course they do and that they were never mad at Callie; just scared for her.
The moms take Callie outside and show her that they managed to save her art project.
Lena saw it in the dumpster and decided to take it home. They tell Callie that they don't want her to forget her past; just that she shouldn't repeat it. Later, Jesus phones Emma to ask her why she didn't come around. She tells him that she has too much packing to do and that she won't be able to see him before she leaves for the robotics competition. Emma hangs up just as Jesus tries to tell her that he loves her.
Brandon and Grace talk things through and they admit that they want to date each other.
Grace gets out the handcuffs for a second time and they share an adorably awkward moment. Meanwhile, Jesus tells Mariana that he's going to ask Emma to help him with his senior project, and Callie sends Ximena a photo of her mom's necklace -- the actual object which defines her. The next day, Stef and Lena bring a plant to their new neighbors and in a shocking turn of events, it turns out that Stef already knows Teresa.
