From the start of planning to the night of the party itself, there was plenty of drama surrounding Mike and Ana's engagement party in season 5 episode 8 of The Fosters, 'Engaged.' By the end of it there were more than a few people who weren't in the mood to celebrate. Watch the full episode now, and then check out our recap below to find out just who wasn't feeling the love.
Jesus urged Gabe to tell Ana how he felt about her.
With the wedding only a month away, Jesus pressured Gabe to act fast.
The kids handed out flyers and put up posters to gain support for saving ABCC.
Their fliers were not nearly as impressive as the new fancy model of what a privatized Anchor Beach Academy could look like.
Lena tried to figure out whether Emma really had agreed to marry Jesus.
She saw that Emma wasn't wearing the promise ring, so she assumed that the engagement wasn't official.
Callie was advised that getting into art school would be a long shot.
She was told that it was a competitive major to get into and that her unfinished portfolio would count against her.
Then she found out that AJ was trying to get into the art school too.
Callie was really impressed by his artwork, and it made her doubt whether her own work was good enough. She lied to him when he asked what major she was applying for. Later she told Aaron about how she was unsure, and he asked whether art was the best way for her to have an impact.
Grace made it clear that she wanted Brandon to ask her to prom....but that he could take his time.
Confused by Grace's subtle hints, Mariana later explained to Brandon that Grace was hoping for a "promposal," a big romantic gesture.
Callie and Mariana made signs for the upcoming protest with Ximena.
Ximena tells them that her parents are revising their emergency plans if they are deported, and that Ximena will now be her younger sister Poppy's legal guardian.
At Mike and Ana's engagement party, Stef noticed that Emma was wearing her promise ring.
She was worried that her son really was engaged after all, and immediately wanted to talk to Lena about it.
Jesus once again encouraged Gabe to speak to Ana...in the middle of a speech celebrating Mike and Ana.
And it was the definition of awkward. Brandon was upset that his brother was trying to damage Mike and Ana's relationship, but Jesus was convinced that Ana still had feelings for Gabe.
Emma told Lena the truth -- that she didn't want to marry Jesus.
Lena comforted Emma, who had felt the pressure of being the reason Jesus was back at school. Lena explained that Jesus' recovery was not her responsibility. They discussed the engagement, and Lena realized that Jesus had misunderstood Emma's intentions.
The moms resolved to do everything possible to improve Jesus' health and get him back to school.
Lena and Stef decided the best way to get Jesus' attention was to stop letting him work on the treehouse.
Brandon overheard Gabe finally telling Ana that he still loved her.
Gabe poured his heart out, and said he wanted to be with her, and be a father to Isabella. But Ana made it clear that she had moved on, and couldn't wait to marry Mike.
Emma told Jesus that they were too young to be engaged.
Emma gave back the ring and even though she still wanted to be with Jesus, he lost his temper and told her to leave. Mariana tried to defend Emma, and make her brother realize how supportive his girlfriend had been. Jesus refused to listen.
Brandon's "promposal" turned into a disaster when Grace's mom showed up at her apartment.
While we all appreciated the cute reference to when Brandon didn't understand Grace's booty call in season 5 episode 2, Grace's mom was not as amused.
Jude told Taylor about the offer from the video game developer, but she didn't react as he'd expected.
He had hoped that she would understand it was a huge opportunity for him, and that she would allow him to take the deal without her. Instead, she wanted Jude to turn down the offer and continue live streaming with her.
Someone destroyed the model of Anchor Beach Academy, and Drew blamed the Adams Foster kids.
He had checked the security camera footage, and noticed that the Adams Fosters kids were the only kids at the school when the incident happened.
Jesus discovered that Gabe had moved out, and he found a letter addressed to him.
We don't know what is in the letter, but we hope Gabe will still be there for Jesus. He needs all the support he can get.
At the protest, Aaron spotted AJ and Callie.
He seemed to be upset to see Callie with her ex, and he left without speaking to her.
