As with all The Fosters episodes, this one didn't hold back on the drama. Mariana may have made an enemy on the roller derby team, Jesus decided that he didn't want to go back to school, and Brandon agreed to let his ex-girlfriend stay in their garage. But then there was also some great news -- a couple got engaged! Check out the recap, then watch season 5 episode 4 right here on Freeform.
They explain to Jesus that they are just concerned about his ability to control his aggression. Once Jesus leaves to get some blood tests done, the doctor tells them that they should manage their expectations -- there is no pill that is going to make Jesus who he used to be.
Mariana goes to her first roller derby practice.
And she finds out just how useful butt padding can be. Meanwhile, Stef interrupts Callie and Aaron's make out session to tell Callie that she bumped into Cole at the LGBTQ center. He told Stef that he would love to see Callie sometime so Callie says she'll give him a call.
Jesus lashes out at Brandon again, thinking that he told Emma he trashed his room.
Brandon tries to tell Jesus that Emma overheard their moms talking. Lena breaks up their fight. Later, Grace asks Brandon if he would like to stay with her in order to give Jesus some space. Brandon agrees that that would be a good idea.
Ana sees Mike acting suspicious.
Later, Ana investigates and finds an engagement ring. AJ catches Ana looking through Mike's drawers, so she shows him what she found. Despite Ana saying earlier that not all women want commitment, she gets adorably excited. The only problem now is she has to pretend she doesn't know.
Brandon decides not to stay at Grace's after all.
He uses the excuse that his moms don't want him to stay over, but it seems as though something else is playing on his mind. He gets a call from Cortney who needs a favor.
Cole is surprised to find out that Callie is dating Aaron.
He admits that he didn't believe Callie's reasons for not wanting to be with him in the past. After the initial awkwardness passes, Callie tells Cole that she and Aaron haven't had sex yet, and she asks him for advice. Cole tells her that he likes it when his girlfriend talks about how masculine he is.
Mariana starts to get the hang of roller derby.
Ximena tells her that she could be a Jammer. This is great news for Mariana, but Poppy (who had asked her sister earlier if she could be a Jammer) does not look pleased. During practice, Poppy pushes Mariana over. Ximena calls her on it and even though Poppy says she was only trying to make Mariana mad so she could up her game, we have a feeling there's something else going on.
Brandon tells Grace that he is babysitting Mason as a favor to a friend.
Later, Stef arrives home and asks Brandon if Cortney is there too, which means that Grace finds out who Mason actually is. In an even more awkward turn of events, Mason asks Brandon when he's going to move back in. Hearing this, Grace wonders why Brandon couldn't stay at her place the other night so she confronts him about it. Brandon admits that he's worried they might be moving too fast and that he doesn't want to make the same mistakes with Grace as he did with Cortney.
Jesus and Emma talk about her abortion.
Jesus is worried that Emma didn't tell him about the baby because she knew he would have wanted to keep it. Emma tries to tell him that as it was her body, her choice, and that she wasn't ready to have a baby or give one up for adoption. She goes on to say that she can't be with Jesus if he feels angry or betrayed by what she did, and that he needs to stop tormenting Brandon as he was only trying to help him.
Callie takes Cole's advice, but Aaron's not buying it.
Callie admits that she took some advice from Cole, but Aaron can't understand why she wouldn't just ask him. He goes on to say he's not ready to have sex with Callie because he needs to know that he can trust her, and that he's worried he's just a rebound after AJ. Callie tells Aaron that she is sick of boys telling her how complicated she is and storms out.
Callie confronts AJ about his cheating on her.
She tells AJ that he made her feel like his cheating on her was her fault. She goes on to tell AJ that because she is seeing Aaron, she just wants things to be clean between them. AJ, however, tells her that he will not take the blame for something that wasn't entirely his fault.
Jesus apologizes to Brandon and tells him what's really bothering him.
Brandon tells Jesus that if he is patient, he'll be able to come back from his injury, and that just because things won't be the same doesn't mean they won't be okay. Jesus says he just needs to convince Emma of that and they hug it out. Our boys are back, guys.
Callie goes back to Aaron's to talk things through.
She assures him that he's not just a rebound. She goes on to say that while she is over AJ, she's not over how badly he hurt her -- which is why she's not ready for her and Aaron to have sex either. When they are ready, Callie tells Aaron that she will probably need to ask him questions without worrying that he'll get mad at her for saying the wrong thing. Aaron assures her that she can ask him anything, and they kiss and make up.
Jesus decides that he doesn't want to go back to school after all.
In order to go back to school, Stef tells him that after doing some assessments to see where he's at, he will probably need to get a paraprofessional -- an educational aid who will go with Jesus to his classes. Jesus doesn't take this well and decides that he could work with Gabe instead of going back to school. The mamas try and tell him that that isn't an option, but Jesus storms out before they can say anything else.
In happier news, Ana and Mike are engaged!
AJ tries to play dumb but Ana tells him that she told Mike everything. AJ says that they're going to be one big happy family. Meanwhile, Cortney tells Brandon that she is in between apartments at the moment. Brandon tells her that she can stay with them while Gabe is out of town. This won't drive a rift between him and Grace, will it?
